Bomber Command – O.R.B. No. 107 Squadron (August 1940)

Wattisham, August 22
Training was carried out in the morning under Flight arrangements. Nine aircraft were detailed to attack aerodromes in France by night, and the first aircraft took off at midnight. One aircraft (F/Lt. Warren) successfully attacked aerodrome at ORLEANS. Bombs were seen to burst among hangars. Aircraft was subjected to moderate but very inaccurate A.A. fire.

The aerodrome at ORLEANS was bombed successfully, hangars being hit. Aircraft was subjected to moderate and inaccurate A.A. fire.

Wattisham, August 24
Training was carried out in the morning under Flight arrangements. Ten aircraft were detailed to attack aerodromes in France by night, and the first aircraft took off at 22.00 hours. One aircraft (F/Lt. Warren) successfully attacked aerodrome at ORLEANS. Bursts were observed amongst buildings. Medium but inaccurate A.A. fire was experienced.

Bomber Command – O.R.B. No. 110 Squadron (August 1940)

17/8/40 - Four sections of this squadron standing by sunrise as Duty Battle Section. Twelve aircraft took off between 2255 hours and 0110 hours 18/8/40 to attack aerodromes at ANGERS, AMIENS-GLISY, TOURS, BOURGES, BEAUVAIS, ROUEN-BOOS, ABBEVILLE and ORLEANS-BRICY. Operation was carried out successfully by nine aircraft, the returning three did not locate target. All aircraft returned and landed safely between 0455 hours and 0620 hours 18/8/40.

19/8/40 - Four sections of this squadron standing by sunrise as Duty Battle Section. Crews were briefed at 1700 hours and eleven aircraft took off between 2350 hours and 0100 hours 20/8/40. One aircraft did not take off owing to faulty navigation lights. Task was to attack aerodromes at BOURGES, ORLEANS, VILLACOUBLAY, CHATEAUROUX. Six aircraft successfully carried out the operation and one aircraft bombed CHATEAUDUN as alternative. The remaining aircraft were unable to locate allotted target and did not bomb. All aircraft returned safely and landed between 0440 hours and 0625 hours 20/8/40.

23/8/40 & 24/8/40 - Four sections of this squadron standing-by to attack enemy aerodromes. Twelve aircraft took off between 2320 hours and 0055 hours 24/8/40 to attack aerodromes at BEAUVAIS, BOURGES, VILLACOUBLAY, ABBEVILLE, CHATEAUROUX, ROUEN-BOOS, ORLEANS-BRICY, AMIENS and ANGERS. Six aircraft bombed primary target, one aircraft bombed alternative target and five aircraft were unable to locate their target one which, piloted by Sgt. Bennett landed safely on return at Abingdon. All aircraft returned safely and landed between 0310 hours and 0555 hours 24/8:40.
